2012 | Drawn Apart , Paper Plane Gallery, Rozelle, Sydney

Naomi Ullmann, Aaron Matheson, Gianni Wise, Sally Kidall.
Curated by Gianni Wise. A collaborative drawing project started in May 2011.
Initiated to investigate the possibilities of collaborative art production.

As a group of 4 artists living in various parts of Australia we became interested in the nature of collaboration.
We have devised narrative that is based on an interchange of “drawings”. Each artist in the group sends
a scanned image to another member every week. This drawing informs the next drawing initiated.
The following weeks the exchange occurs with other members of the group. After over 6 months of
weekly exchange a narrative with a distinct thread is beginning to emerge – beyond the discreet
works themselves. We intend to continue for a maximum of 8 months – which will produce 128 drawings.
Our intention is to present the work as a series that follows the wall of the space, installed as one work.
Animation perhaps. Cinematic?

Live Guide summed up the project succinctly:
As a group of 4 artists living in various parts of Australia we have been interested in the nature of
collaboration as a means of art production. This collaboration has taken the form of an online interaction
based on an ongoing interchange of “drawings”. Each artist in the group has sent a scanned image to
another member. This drawing then forms the basis for the next drawing for the following week. After more
than 12 months of weekly exchange a distinct narrative with each of the 4 threads has begun to emerge-
beyond the discreet works themselves. This collection of over 170 drawings then forms a singular, fluid
narrative.

The intention was to present the work as a series that follows the wall of the space, installed as this work.
Animation perhaps. Cinematic?
